The Big Fish - Cabo Blue Marlin

This is a story about the last hours of the last day of an amazing fishing trip to Cabo san Lucas.

I had organized a bunch of friends and headed to Cabo for seven days of fishing. There was Sam 'The Hammer', Art 'of the Possible, Charles 'Queasy', Doc Walker, my brother Tom and me. My friends at Pisces Fishing Fleet had provided us with their best boats and guides and we were staying at the marina Fiesta - right on the harbor. We were having a wonderful time.

After three days of fishing there wasn't a virgin in the crowd! Pisces had delivered as - they always seem to. Everybody had boated at least one marlin and most of us had three to four to our credit. All were catch and clean release. At one point on one glorious afternoon we had two on and another swimming about looking for something to eat!

We had also really gotten into the tuna. They were large shoals of yellow-fin - thousands of them stacked below the boats. The crew also knew what we had on. They worked quickly to get a harness on me and settled me back into the chair. And then the fight began in earnest. The first run took another 200 yards of line. I remember being very glad that it had hit the rod with the big reel on it. Finally I managed to turn the marlin back towards the boat. The captain had been backing down and did a great job of keeping the stern to the fish. I checked the drag and had Tom pour a bucket of water on the reel.

Forty-five minutes later I had the fish at the boat. We got our first close-up look at this magnificent marlin. The mate actually got the leader in hand - but the fish wasn't finished by any measure. He turned away from the boat and started another run - another 300 yards of line went before I could turn him again.

Then the acrobatics started again. The marlin jumped half a dozen times before I got him under control. An hour later I had him at the boat again and this time the crew was able to life insurance cover the capture. Now, as I look at the photo on my wall, I remember that trip and that day - the last fishing trip I was ever to take with my brother before he died. The memories of Cabo, Tom and the big fish are ever with me.

A final note to this story - the Bisbee Fishing Tournament is an annual even at Cabo with a first prize of well over a million dollars. It seems I was just a week early because the fish would have taken first! Oh well, the memories are priceless!

Booby Fly Pattern - A Floating Fly Pattern Using a Sinking Line

Personally, I have never seen an actual snail imitation nor knew how I would fish one until I talked with long-time fishing personality and author, Mo Bradley (book - From Ice Off to Ice On) . He has nurtured and studied the life cycles of most local freshwater insects in an aquarium at his home for years and described to me the habits of our local freshwater snails. Apparently they generate their own gases to carry them to the surface when they need an oxygen supplement, remain buoyant until they are satisfied and release the gas with control to return to the bottom.

Mo suggested that I look at a pattern that originated in the UK, the Booby Fly, and fish it with a sinking line. It is basically a popper fly that creates a unique action of wanting to go back to the surface while it's being pulled to the bottom. In order to achieve the desired action he also suggested that a maximum 7 foot leader be used.

Not ever seeing a booby fly before, I decided to tie my own version of a snail imitation based on the information that Mo gave me. It ended up looking like a chironomid with... well... boobies. For the boobies, I cut a slice out of a "dink float", a type of foam float used on the rivers, cut it into 1/4" slices, cut the slices in half and tied it to the forward end of the hook crossways so it looked like a "T". I first used a gray foam and dark body on the fly with a brass bead head. Ugly enough to look like a snail imitation. I also tied a similar pattern that looked like a small maribou leech and added boobies to that.

My first day out with the fly was unproductive. I went to Pass Lake for the lunkers and as usual, I was stymied. The fly wasn't quite working the way I wanted. I believe that the metal beadhead more than neutralized the buoyancy of the boobies and the fly didn't "bob" between pulls on the line the way that I expected. There was a highlight in the day. As I fished the shallows I was able to watch large rainbow trout follow the fly with curiosity. They didn't take it but at least I knew that I had captured their attention.

After being skunked with my first booby fly pattern, I modified the fly using a glass beadhead instead of a metal one and added a mixture of white boobies as well as the gray. I felt armed and dangerous and was anxious to give it another try. This time I headed to Morgan Lake, near Savona. This time we were rewarded.

On my 2nd cast I nailed a lovely 20" beauty with the dark booby. life insurance quotation another and another. I tinkered with the way I was presenting the fly and found most of my success was when I was able to let the fast sinking line find it's way to the bottom (12'-15') while the booby remained at or near the surface. Once he mastered that technique his success increased substantially.

We managed to fish the booby pattern until November 20 when it just got too cool. Winter was biting in the wind and it snowed 3 days later. My best day was a 7 fish, 30 lb total weight afternoon during 2 hours of fishing. I even got fish on the troll as I kept my line in the water while I rowed to a different location on the lake.

We are naming the fly "the Kamloops Booby". In terms of success (and I have only fished this pattern about 5 times), I have found that the combination of a white head and dark boobies or dark head and white boobies had the best success. I had a little better success with the chironimid body compared with the micro-leech body. Our fishing with the fly was limited to the month of November so we look forward to a new season and developing a log for it's applications throughout a whole season. Followup may take the form of a phone call to payer to discover a lost claim or to receive interpretation of denial message, correction of earlier submitted data, resubmission of the original claim, consultation with the provider and medical notes, or denial appeal.

Both FPP and Denial rates are very important metrics often used for billing process improvement. The upside of FPP/Denial metric is that it is charge-invariant but its downside is that it hides the differences between process imperfections on the claim submission and claim payment sides. To identify patterns of problem CPT codes or payers, FPP/Denial metric needs to be computed and compared across all pairs of payer-CPT code, which is a standard feature for modern billing technologies.

Not sure whats happening with me on that one, but it seems like the more I listen to it, the better Heavy auto insurance rates comparison gets. Heavy Soul stated simply is one of Ike Quebecs best CDs to date.

Refreshingly, that was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty simple for me to listen to from start to finish.

One of the refreshingly nice things about that CD is the way all of the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and you have got one of Ike Quebecs most impressive releases ever.

6. Get your first row wedged in really tight so that it will provide a solid basis for your entire floor.

7. Before any of the glue dries, use a soft cloth to clean up any glue that may be sitting on the surface of your first row. The longer you wait to clean up the glue, the more difficult it will get to clean up the glue.

8. Hopefully you didn't mutilate the excess piece of panel you cut off to end the first row. That's going to be the panel you use to start the next row. that helps make sure your hardwood floor looks nice by having all of the panels offset.

9. If you're seeing any bubbles, hills, or slopes on the panels you've been laying, put a heavy, flat object on top of these sections to hold them down until the glue attaches them to the substrate.

10. Clean up once more. Get all of that sawdust and glue out of there. A soft cloth with mineral spirits on it can be used to get glue you've missed that may be hardening. Clean the mineral spirits off quickly to avoid having them damage the floor. You should have a nice, new hardwood floor.

Employees understand change that is essential to achieve goals if those goals are clearly stated.

Employees gain increased respect for leaders that become the architects of change. that is especially true if the leader encourages and solicits input from the employees.

Leaders must systematically manage the change they create with fearless abandon demonstrating a purposeful and disciplined approach that engages the entire organization through active participation in the success process.

Employee ownership of change, the vision end game and the strategic initiatives is one ingredient that is absolutely essential to success.

Change Can Take on Many Forms

Effective leaders know that creating and managing change starts with the human side of the equation. Behavioral change becomes a necessity for almost every success initiative employed. that often means more effective coaching, training, skill development, and accountability. Process improvement is often a platform that supports change in the organization. And last but not least, change becomes a meaningful part of organizational structure and culture. that often requires a realignment of reporting relationships and responsibilities. From an organizational culture perspective, change may demand adjustments to some managerial styles, values and even belief systems to some degree. that is often the most challenging aspect of managing change. There are eight basic reasons change efforts can fail. Understanding these reasons and avoiding the causes will improve your chances of effectively creating and managing change.

Eliminate any systems or structures that seriously undermine the vision. Encourage employees to take calculated risk.

6. Not systematically planning and creating short term wins ----Plan and create short-term wins. Establish milestones along the way. Praise for progress. There are some inherent problems, but, sure, there are some benefits too. Well, for a lot of us, it's just too darned hard to play the dual roles that are expected of us when we join the corporate ride. To many of our white counterparts, we've not earned the right to be there, and to many of our own black contemporaries, we've "sold out" to white America.

You know, I'm not sure that it has to be either way. I have a female friend who hails from Canada and we were recently discussing the issue of "blackness" in that country. She's a black woman and has encountered a great deal of resistance from the black community for her desire to participate in corporate life. She has been criticized for talking, dressing, and acting... "white".

however, for my friend, there's no such thing. Remember, she's from Canada. For her, there is no identity crisis between culture and career goals. And, you know? The bulk of the information is located around the City of York itself. This article will discuss the physical locations for research, not on-line resources. As in most Pennsylvania counties there is not an overwhelming amount of material in any one place, nor at the county or local libraries. machine Keyboards Cause Pain

Do you suffer with Connecticut Lemon Laws or elbow pain? Do you know you are not alone? There are literally thousands of people in Eddvsbenuss same boat.

I started typing on an old manual typewriter in high school many years ago. I was in typing class and I remember completing the exercises of the key placement and stretches. The numbers and symbols were harder because you had to reach.

When years later I was working in a doctors office my wrist started to ache. I made my first orthopedic doctors visit regarding hand pain. I was then given a cortisone injection and the dilemma resolved itself for years.

Now keying on a machine day in and day out for years my hand pain had returned with a vengeance.

After several hand surgeries on both Editechqmfqddaash I consider my hands "delicate".

Many years ago my sister in law a hand therapist told me to fold a towel and place it under my keyboard.

I tried that but I found that it did not give me the cushioning I needed when touching the keyboard. I finally found a pad that worked. I cut it from a larger pad that was used for something completely different.

It worked!

I noticed the difference in my hand pain immediately. I could key on a machine for hours longer and the pain was never as severe as it was in the past.

I use an ergonomic G.I. Joe at home and it makes a huge difference when typing for hours.

The only other option that doctors love to tell you is to wear a hand splint. If you have ever worn a hand splint you know that I was not a happy camper.

Now I do not wear hand splints and my hand pain is severely reduced.

I know there are thousands of men, women, and children who are suffering from hand and elbow pain from continuous keying on their machine keyboards.

My suggestion is to try a pad under your keyboard. What can it hurt?

Remember keying on a keyboard is like hitting a brick wall with your hands.

The Interstate Land Sales Full Disclosure Act ("ILSA") is a federal law Miserlou was passed in Mystery Date late 1960s to Feddjycfrs buyers Bigfoot video out-of-state land. Those were the days when parcels of vacant land might be advertised to far-flung speculators as promising wonderful development opportunities. Only once the land was purchased and the purchaser traveled to take a look at the parcel for the first time, it would turn out to be a worthless, isolated patch of desert or swamp with little or no potential to access the infrastructure or resources needed to sustain a viable development project.

In the years since ILSA was passed, the law has been held to apply to condominium developments. And as real estate market watchers know, pre-construction condo investments in places like South Florida may appear to present many of the same dilemmas that vacant land sales once did. In particular, pre-construction condos are advertised as glamorous out-of-state investment opportunities -- a chance to make money while literally owning a cutting-edge piece of paradise. But the glamour wears off quickly once the market takes a downward turn and the buyer is unable to resell the property, whereupon he or she scrutinizes the development with a critical eye. At this point, the buyer detects ways in which the building (which may not yet be fully constructed) deviates from what he or she believes was promised before signing the purchase agreement, and the buyer begins to feel cheated.

One of the significant requirements of ILSA is that the developer register the development with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development ("HUD") and furnish a thick "Property Report" to the buyer before he or she signs the purchase agreement. Not surprisingly, developers don't want to comply with this somewhat onerous requirement if they don't absolutely have to. And in fact, there are a number of exemptions which developers can take advantage in order to avoid the registration and Property Report requirement.

One particularly important exemption, which is widely misundersas welld, is the so-called "two-year" exemption. Generally speaking, a developer does not need to register with HUD and provide a Property Report if the developer provides a contractual commitment to build the development within two years after the date the buyer signs the purchase agreement. However, the "two year" exemption is not as straightforward as it may seem, because while developers may seek to "qualify" any two year commitment by limiting the buyer's remedies in the event that the two-year deadline is missed, Florida court are rather strict in their interpretation of the exemption such that the developer may actually lose the exemption if it qualifies the two-year deadline in such a manner.

Of special importance on this last point is 15 U.S.C. section 1703(c), a section of ILSA which provides that in the event a Property Report is required but the buyer is not provided one prior to signing the purchase agreement, the buyer has the option of revoking the contract. Given the current real estate market, it is unsurprising that there a number of cases currently on the docket in Florida state and federal courts allege that buyers (who are seeking to get out of their condo contracts) were not provided a Property Report when they should have been. Time will tell if the courts agree with these buyers and find that the failure to provide a Property Report is an adequate basis to cancel their contracts. The Three-Fold Path to a Productive Graphic Design Process - From Nonprofit Communicators and Design

I recently spoke with three nonprofit communicator colleagues and four graphic designers Avengers outlined this three-fold path to a process that'll Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman high-impact design for your nonprofit. Before you even get to the design process itself, remember to follow these five pre-design steps to effective graphic design, from finding the right designers to crafting a creative brief.

Here's what your colleagues advise:

Be clear, comprehensive and realistic

Hudson River Sloop Clearwater Director of Communications Kitty McCullough swears by this maxim. She advises nonprofit communicators to "sketch out as much as you can at the beginning (back to the creative brief) and ask for preliminary sketches so your designer doesn't spend time working up something far from what you want."

Mark Dessauer, communications officer at Active Living By Design, solicits three to five design concepts from his graphic Lava Lamps "And I ask for completely distinct takes on the project, not variations on a single theme," says Mark. "This lets me expand the discussion to go beyond my pre-conceived ideas, and pushes my designers to be their most creative."

Jack Sherin, former agency creative exec and now freelance designer to a range of nonprofit clients, suggests that you be "entirely confident in all details of your design needs and process, before getting started." Most importantly, think through your concepts and goals before saying a word to your graphic designers. "For us, the essence of an effective partnership is understanding that the designer's job is to provide graphic interpretations of OUR thinking. We define the concepts we want to convey, how the new design links with existing design elements, etc.," comments Julia Graham Lear, director of the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools. "If we don't take time to do so, the final product will reflect the designer's 'take' on the project, not ours."

Designer Sybil Rogers swears by the creative brief, which "enables us designers to create designs that are visually relevant and strategically on target."

Here are my guidelines for creating a creative brief that works.

Build a solid, candid, ongoing relationship with your graphic designers

Nothing is more important than building and maintaining these relationships, even when no design project is pending. Build those partnerships and keep them going, so that your designers keep you, and your organization's design profile, top of mind.

Lenore Neier, VP of Marketing and Communications at the American Liver Foundation(ALF), makes sure she develops and maintains close working relationship with favorite designers. "It seems to be the only way that works," she says. "They have to get to know your organization intimately to give you the right design product."

Lenore speaks with ALF's graphic and web designers on an ongoing basis. "That way they stay current with our focus and news, and are ready to jump in when we need them," she says.

Don't forget that strong relationships are built on honesty - diplomatic honesty that is. Mark Dessauer recommends that you be "completely honest about how you feel about the work, especially if a designer is a friend (which frequently happens, even if that isn't the case at the beginning). If you aren't happy, you'll be saddled with a design product that doesn't meet your expectations or needs. The results will suffer, and your relationship will too," he advises.

Jack Sherin suggests that you take it one step further to educate your designers on your nonprofit's internal approval process, so they understand what it'll take to build consensus around design decisions.

Don't try to be the graphic designer

This is a hard one, as all of us think we have a great why not? sense, and want to apply it to our brochures and email templates as we do in our living rooms and gardens. Stop!

Graphic designer Barbara Wertheim, who works with nonprofit clients as diverse as the Seeing Eye and the New Jersey Hall of Fame, advises, "Make sure you hire a competent professional designer with a proven track record -- and then trust her to do her job. Make changes to the design when they're based in a sound rationale, but resist tinkering with the design -- as you risk throwing off a deliberate and delicate visual balance."

Kitty Griffith, an expert communicator who has led initiatives at organizations as diverse as Citibank and NYRAG, takes this one step further. "Don't tell the graphic artist how to do her art - she's the pro; you're not," she says. "Do convey any design modifications you have. But remember that a good designer will advise against changes that will weaken the design (for example, using green ink for type, which is notoriously hard to read). Don't force the issue - the designer knows best."

The followers of Dr. King held many peaceful demonstrations including marches and sit-ins to bring about change. The main intent of the demonstrations was to get a point across peacefully, but some events lead to violence brought forth by the police force and racist organizations. The violence and hatred of some only created an everlasting hunger in Dr. King's followers to keep pressing onward in reaching their goal. Dr. King and his followers came to the conclusion that they would no longer allow themselves to turn their backs from such oppression. This was in the benefit for not only black rights, but for the rights of all oppressed around the world.

Martin Luther King Jr. has proved himself to be a great visionary and drastically impacted the world due to his actions. He pushed and pushed, and eventually saw the hearts of his fellow man slowly change. Sadly, like so many great men before him he passed away before he saw his vision in full effect. Dr. King's dream still lives on today instilled in the heart of every American no matter what race or ethnicity. When we gaze at what Dr. King accomplished, we see a man who changed the world. Martin Luther King Jr. will always be remembered in history as a great man.
